did you watch top gear in america? if so what do you think of the way those red necks reacted to the slogans that they painted on their cars? Do you think that in endland people would react the same way if they did the same in england? and what was the best bit in your opinion.
I think that the way those people reacted was realistic for parts of america, not all of america is like that but america in general is much further behind in civil rights i.e. their new decision that to stop gays getting married marriage is just a certificate of breeding rights (but that is a discusion for another time).
The slogans where bordering being offensive but did not deserve the reaction they got the most offensive one was hillary clinton for president as she is unfair and unjust to those in the south and i can quite imagine people in britan reacting similary if someopne went around the grubby parts of britan with bnp for prme minister written on it.
Thoungh i do not think that people should be attacted for a simple statment like that. however the other statements on the cars should not have been offensive and not receved the reaction they did hammonds was embarrising for him and jame's was just silly nothing offensive at all.
What i was most shocked by was the way they where more offended by hammonds than anyone elses.
I dont think that people in england would react the same way i suspect that if a similar sort of thing had happened in england they could have expected to be sworn at and maybe a bottle or too thrown at the windscreen but i do not think that they woudl have been chased by so many people throwing stones intent on causing harm and definatly not in broard day light.
I was also shocked by the fact that you could find a murdered mans shirt in a car and not have to hand it in to someone - accept it as the norm because so many people got kileld in that car - i know gang war fair is a big problem in the uk but parts of america do seem to have a much much bigger problem than us.
my favourite bit had to be when jeremy turned up with a cow on his car - i think that this was real and not a set up as the cow was bloated with gas which proves that it had been left unatended for a while which is not something that would have happened to a cow if it had been set up and the cow killed on purpose. and that kind of thing does happen in america - in england farming can be very different and it would be very rare to find a cow on the roadside however in america it is a totaly differnt story. My other favourite bit is when hammond nearly drove in to a pond of alligators - they where pretending that it was more dangerous than it actually was but it still made good tv.
I think that some of the shots where designed to go for shock impact and that it didnt show america as it actually is as a hole but it did show the extremes and the problems they have there.
I was disgusted by how new orleans is still such a reck - it shows that prejudice is two faced - we saw how the people in a;bama are prejudice against gays ect.. but then we saw how whites are still prejudice to blacks. It was horrible and i can not belive that america is letting them suffer like that. Top gear has highlighted the problem and now, hopefully, the american government will be forced to do something. Top gear highlighted what a faliure the government is and hopefully ots of good will coem out of that trip and the people who have had their lives devistated can be given help.
please reply i want to knwo what you think (everyones opinion is valued) not much descusion has happened on this board so lets get the ball rolling. have fun discusing!!!!!!!!!
